If you follow more than 50 people on Twitter, it’s hard to keep up with all of their tweets. Chances are, you probably don’t camp out on the social platform all day anyway, so today’s tip deals with how to jump in and out — productively.

I recommend utilizing lists: in other words, curated groups of users. They empower you to follow what the people with whom you most want to interact are saying. Create your own public and private lists, and subscribe to those others create.

Below, I share three of my personal lists on HootSuite:

1. Social Brand. Includes all of my favorite social media rock stars
2. Influencers: Fashion and beauty bloggers
3. Luxury Brands. Exactly what I call them: Definitive of luxury.

Depending on my current project, I tune into each list to gauge and engage in current conversations. As I monitor these lists, I retweet and respond to content.
