Social Diva Media sat down with long time friend George B Style and talked all things style, entrepreneurship and social media.
Social Diva Media: George, you’re no stranger to us here at Social Diva Media – we’ve done a lot of fun stuff together over the years, but give us an update on what you’ve been up to recently:
George B: For those that don’t know me, I’m a NYC based stylist and image consultant. I have great clients who range from everyday soccer moms who want to improve their appearance to A-list celebrities who are about to sashay down the red carpet. I’ve had the privilege of appearing on Television such as NBC’s the Today show, and NY 1 as the official red carpet fashion critic for the Tony Awards. My most exciting project was recently releasing my personal lifestyle and fashion book called “Change Your Clothing, Change Your Life: Because You Can’t go Naked!”.
SDM: Wow you HAVE been busy. So business is booming? How do you think you gained so much momentum?
GB: It’s amazing. You know, I have attracted so much attention just from social media, and it has played a huge part in the success of my business. With the help of Peg (Samuel, founder of Social Diva Media), I went from such a small number of followers, to now my social following has grown to reach up to 20,000 people. And I get contacted through social media on a daily basis for business opportunities. Its funny, when I’m out in public people come up to me and say: “I’m friends with you on Facebook and I’m following you on twitter” and they say “I love what you’re doing, and I love what you’re saying…”
SDM: Why is Social Media so important to you?
GB: It’s important for exposure, it’s important to build my brand, and although I don’t really like that phrase it does exactly that: It builds your brand. There are ebb and flows to anyone’s career and success. Sometimes I won’t be on TV or I won’t get widespread press, but I can always be present on Social Media. It’s like free publicity! Whatever I’m doing, wherever I am, I’ll post about it and I get such a great response from it.
SDM: What would your one piece of advice be for budding entrepreneurs?
GB: Take Social Media seriously. It’s such a powerful tool. When it’s done well, its like being on national television. Also, be strategic – know what you want to say and how you want to say it. I think because we have become so oversaturated with it – we’ve become a little desensitized to its capabilities. But when you’re consistent and strategic you’ll get prominent and effective exposure.
SDM: What’s the take away George? What’s your secret to brand success in one sentence?
GB: Tell your story with social media. The sky is the limit!
